Karina wasn't really supposed to take personal calls in the midst of photoshoots, but they had Dragon Kid and Sky High ready for their turn and she was on standby for the moment, so when Sparkle's number popped up on her phone…

Well, it was fine. Blue Rose was supposed to do her own thing anyway and--if they needed her, she'd just hang up on him.

"What's wrong now?" she asked, as Barnaby showed up on the other side of the room, their eyes meeting for a minute, before he was whisked off to makeup as well.

Hellos were for people who weren't on the clock.

[For he who is calling!]

Karina had no idea how long an animal transformation was supposed to last--mostly because she tried really, really hard at shutting out as much of the weirdness as possible--but, despite the fact that Sparkle being a dog was weird as hell, she was not above taking advantage of the fact that he was also ridiculously adorable.

He was also extremely amendable to being dressed in ridiculous outfits. The pictures were deeply incriminating and super cute.

(Karina liked the one with the poofy pink doggy princess dress best, even if he had chewed on the soft, squishy tiara they'd included in the costume set.)

Right now, she was balancing a tiny wizard hat on his head. She'd already talked (and okay, given him treats for being such a good boy) him into wearing the matching wizard cape. Halloween was the best time of the year for ridiculous dog costumes.

"Good boy," she said, and it was a bit sad that she could tell that he was torn between sulky and preening. "Such a handsome boy!"

Preening won out. Sparkle was so easy.

The wizard hat fell off before she could take a picture. That figured, but she took a picture anyway.

[Expecting the modded one, but open!]

Class had been eerily normal and low-key.

Karina wasn’t complaining, exactly, but it left her wary. It was an improvement, especially as she caught up on the radio broadcasts, and realized just how much crazy she’d missed--which she wasn’t complaining about either—but it still left her wondering what was coming next.

She sprawled out on her bed, listening to podcasts, with her door open, and mulled over the fact that this place was turning her paranoid and she’d managed to have the luck at avoiding most of the bad things.

That was one good thing, she supposed. All the paranoia, hardly any of the trauma? She could deal with that.

[Open, sure!]

There were very few things that Karina actually cared about enough to bother looking for if they went missing. Especially since both by natural inclination and career-driven motivation, she was extremely organized and things seldom went missing in the first place.

So if something wasn't where it was supposed to be, Karina usually wrote it off as 'whatever, not a big deal', since it generally wasn't.

That was… not the case today.

Her room looked like a tornado had gone through it, leaving the contents of her closet and desk strewed about the floor, and covering both her bed and the empty bed with her things. She'd gone through her backpack meticulously. She'd even lifted up the mattresses to thoroughly check underneath them.

No luck. Shit.

The fact that she'd used her phone to manually turn the bracelet to voice (since it was usually on vibrate) and that if Agnes needed her, she'd hear that French Bonjour loud and clear… well, it really didn't help.

Because Karina didn't lose things, and she hadn't lost this, and given how weird things were lately, it was probably Fandom's fault. Which meant she wasn't likely to find it until the island felt goddamn good and ready to give it back.

Which meant she was probably fucked.

"Shit," Karina said, muttering to herself as she began yet another search through her things. "This fucking place."

[Door & post open!]

This was not Karina's morning.

First she'd woken up to Evan's stuff in her room, like he was moving in, only no one had told her. Which was terrible enough and, yes, she only knew it was Evan's stuff because she'd checked and he was lame enough to write his name in his textbooks. Lame. God, what a loser.

Then he'd come along and made it worse. Like, oh sure, she was just going to bow down and let him move in? As if.

(The only thing that salvaged the morning was that he was just as cranky as she was.)

"I don’t care what the room listings say," she snapped. "You're not staying here. This is my room."

It wasn't the first time she'd said it. It was... probably not going to be the last, since this conversation was going nowhere fast.

[For Evan and assorted family!]

Karina was usually not nervous about, well, anything except for people who were trying to kill her. Given how that usually happened, though, she was actually fairly good at coping.

This was a different beast altogether. She had chocolate, and drinks, and sandwiches (several kinds, since she hadn't known what sort Elsa liked) and was spending her time alternately emailing Nathan some truly impressive flailing and wondering if she'd done the right thing that morning.

It was hard to say? She thought so, maybe.

The door was open a crack, so she could keep an eye on the hallway, and Karina waited impatiently for Nathan to get back to her. And for Elsa to show up.

[Expecting one, but open door & post! That Elsa and Karina talked is for broadcast, what they talked about is NFB.]

Karina hadn't had any idea what the hell to feed Sparkle so she'd gone with pizza and salad. She was picking at some of the salad while waiting for him to show up, and checking the HeroTV forums to see what people were talking about since the season finale was coming up soon.

Idly she crunched the numbers to see if there was a chance in hell of her getting crowned at the end of it. The odds weren't looking good, despite her being in second place. Sky High had the advantage of actually being in Sternbild when a call went off. Totally unfair.

Oh well. Her sales were doing better than his anyway. That was what really mattered.

Every now and then she glanced over to make sure her robot baby, Ethan, was still (thankfully) sleeping.

She doubted it would last but, whatever, temporary peace was good enough.

[Expecting one but open door/post!]

My first draft of this post basically consisted of a commercial and nothing else but I sorta figured giving a bit more information might be a good idea. And then I wound up with a table. Yeah.

The literal Ice Queen. Sometimes. It's all Pepsi's fault. )

"You've reached Karina Lyle. Actually... no, you haven't. Leave a message and maybe I'll get back to you."
